Associate Professor Mohammad Saadatfar studies the hidden worlds inside complex materials and microstructures, from particles and pores to engineered devices that shape modern healthcare, geotechnical engineering and manufacturing.
Using physics, materials mechanics, geotechnical engineering, mathematics, the physics of particulate matter, x-ray imaging and computation, his work reveals how materials behave, deform, fail, flow and function. This understanding supports new technologies in geotechnical engineering, digital orthopaedics, adaptive manufacturing, material sensing and CO₂ geosequestration.
Working across physics, engineering, medicine and industry, he turns deep material insight into practical tools for designing, testing and making better devices, smarter manufacturing systems and more personalised healthcare solutions. His current interests include digital twins, advanced x-ray tomography, vibro-acoustic sensing, adaptive manufacturing, carbon capture and storage, biomedical engineering and personalised orthopaedic technologies.
