University Coordination and Instruction
Michelle holds a PhD in Education. She has taught in Rehabilitation Sciences, Health Sciences, Interprofessional education, and Occupational Therapy professional programs since 2001.
Her teaching is focused on researcher capacity development, disability inclusion and community development.
Interprofessional and Cross-Sector Education
Michelle also leads the development, implementation and evaluation of:
- the Award-winning interprofessional Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) Facilitator course (Univeristy of Sydney Short Courses).
- The Disability Inclusive Emergency Management (DIEM) Certificate (University of Sydney Short Courses) and the open access eLearning modules
- Emergency Sector Disability Awareness (ESDA)
- P-CEP for Homelessness Outreach eLearning
International Community Based Inclusive Development
Michelle arrived at academic teaching, curriculum development, and research as a result of her formative experiences in international community development.
Working with the International Centre for the Advancement of Community Based Rehabilitation (ICACBR), Queen's University, Michelle community development projects on:
- 1996 - 1999: CBR development in the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina - War Victims Rehabilitation Project
- 1999: Canada-Russia Health and Social Development Project
- 2007 - 2009: Governance of social care centres in post-tsunami Sri Lanka.
