Prof Hassett (PhD; MHS; BAppSc(PHTY)) is a physiotherapist and Professor of Physical Activity and Disability in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. Prof Hassett is the Conjoint Professor of Allied Health for Western Sydney Local Health District and The University of Sydney, tasked with increasing research capacity and translational research in >1400 allied health clinicians (0.8FTE). Prof Hassett also co-leads the Implementation Science Academy within Sydney Health Partners, an accredited NHMRC Advanced Health Research and Translation Centre, incorporating five major health services, The University of Sydney, and 11 affiliated medical research institutes (0.2FTE). Prof Hassett conducts her research within the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health, leading the research theme of physical activity for people with disabilities. Prof Hassett also holds an Honorary Senior Research Fellowship position in South Western Sydney Local Health District, where she worked clinically as a physiotherapist for 17 years in neurological rehabilitation. Prof Hassett is a past NHMRC TRIP Fellow (2019-2022) and received the Vice Chancellor’s award for excellence in research and teaching in 2020.

 

In the past 10 years Prof Hassett has attracted over $32 million dollars in research funding as a Chief Investigator (>$47 million career total funding), including an NHMRC Translating Research into Practice (TRIP) Fellowship (APP1168274), four MRFF grants as CIA (APP1201086; APP2009099; APP1201086; APP2045063) one NHMRC partnership grant as CIB (APP2011157), and two NHMRC international collaboration grants with Canada (CIHR) and Brazil (GACD), all supporting implementation studies in the health system and community to increase physical activity in older adults and people with disability.
