LEARNING & TEACHING SUMMARy
Associate Professor Joanna Harnett is an experienced educator whose teaching focuses on the current evidence‑base for the efficacy and safety of commonly used complementary medicines, herb-drug interactions, and gastrointestinal health. She leads the development and delivery of an integrated complementary medicine curriculum within the Bachelor and Master of Pharmacy programs and coordinates a key unit of study in gastrointestinal health at the University of Sydney. Joanna also supervises Honours, Masters, and PhD candidates across topics spanning the microbiome, complementary medicine product quality and regulation, and public health.
Beyond under-graduate and post -graduate teaching, she develops and delivers high‑quality continuing professional development content for pharmacists, medical practitioners, and complementary medicine practitioners nationally and internationally with a view to strengthen practitioner capability in evaluating evidence, communicating with consumers, and supporting culturally safe and informed decision‑making about complementray medicine use..
Across all educational activities, Joanna is committed to preparing health professionals to navigate integrative healthcare with confidence, critical thinking, and patient‑centred care.
