2026–2028 | Constructing Reading Teacher Identities: Insights from Artefacts and Practice
In collaboration with Dr Lynn Downes (Queensland University of Technology), this project explores teachers’ identities as reading educators, drawing insights from artefacts that reveal how they perceive and enact their roles in supporting students’ reading development.

 

2025–2027 | AI and Literacy: Developing Reading Identities in Tweens and Teens
In collaboration with the Griff LinC (Literacy in Context) Team (Assoc. Professor Jennifer Alford, Assoc. Professor Katherine Main, Dr Frances Hoyte, Dr Kylie Bradfield, Dr Danielle Heinrichs-Henry), this project explores the emerging reading identities and confidence of tweens and teens who are not yet fluent independent readers.

 

2025–2027 | Teachers’ Curriculum-Making Capabilities in English
This longitudinal study, in partnership with RMIT and collaborators Dr Phil Poulton and Dr Kellie Picker, examines how teachers engage with  centralised curriculum materials in New South Wales and Victoria.

 

2024–2026 | Is It Quality Writing?
Conducted with Dr Phil Poulton (RMIT), this study investigates the quality of writing instruction in centralised curriculum units from New South Wales and Victoria for Kindergarten–Year 6 teachers.

 

 

2024–2025 | Preservice Teachers’ Use of Children’s Literature in Curriculum-Making
This project, with Dr Phil Poulton (RMIT), explores how preservice teachers translate the formal curriculum into meaningful lesson sequences using children’s literature, focusing on interpretation, judgment, and transformation.

 

2023–2025 | Preparing Preservice Teachers in Early Literacy Teaching: Trial of the Non-Scripted Intentional Teaching (N-SIT) Pedagogic Tool
In collaboration with Dr Stacey Campbell (Southern Cross University) and Associate Professor Michelle Neumann (Sheffield University), this funded project develops the N-SIT tool to support young children’s literacy, including phonics and phonemic awareness.

 

2022–2024 | What Do Quality Teachers Do to Build Capacity for Writing and the Teaching of Writing?
This funded study, with Dr Stacey Campbell (Southern Cross University), uses the ELLCO K–3 toolkit to examine writing environments, instruction, and products in two early years classrooms to understand how teachers enhance children’s writing capacity.

 

2022–2024 | Teacher Preparedness for Teaching
This funded study investigates classroom preparedness and the role of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programs in equipping preservice teachers to teach effectively and support children’s learning and development.

 

2020–2023 | Teachers’ Conceptions of Multimodality and Multimodal Texts
In collaboration with Dr Lynn Downes (Queensland University of Technology), this funded project explores early and primary teachers’ conceptions of multimodal texts and their use in the classroom.
