SERVICE & LEADERSHIP SUMMARy

Deb is the co-editor of UKLA’s journal, Journal of Research in Reading. In this role, she contributes to shaping international scholarship in literacy and reading research.

 

Deb is the immediate-past co-editor of the Australian Literacy Educators’ Association’s (ALEA) practice-oriented journal Practical Literacy: The Early and Primary Years (PLEPY), where she mentored in-service teachers to write for the journal and share their outstanding pedagogic practice in literacy. She is also the immediate-past co-lead of ALEA’s Teacher Education Special Interest Group (TESIG), a nationally competitive elected role that involved producing and disseminating professional literacy knowledge and creating opportunities to promote Australian research and scholarship in English and literacy teacher education. In 2022, she was appointed Director of the Master of Teaching (Primary) Program, playing a key role in leading a program review mandated by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA).

 

These positions collectively demonstrate her sustained commitment to academic leadership, professional service, and advancing the field of literacy and teacher education.
