Ali is contributing to coordinate or/and teach several core units including:

- AGRI5001 (Sustainable Food Systems)
Ali oversees several PhD and Honours projects that address diverse topics, such as the effects of heat stress on wheat quality, the use of different crops for sustainable poultry meat production, and the biochemical characteristics of Australian native grains.
Ali supervised the completion of 21 Honours projects and one MAgrEnv student. Nine of his Honours students are now employed in related industries. He is also supervied/supervising eight PhD candidates since 2020.
His Honour's student, Juliet Garland, won the first prize in the esteemed AEV Richardson Memorial Award, a national accolade, and the Chris Russell Medal of Excellence, a state-level award, in 2021. She earned these distinctions for her outstanding Honours project that converted brewers' spent grain into a valuable food ingredient utilised in nutritious muesli bars.
