Professor Wojciech Chrzanowski, MSc, PhD, DSc
Professor of Nanomedicine • Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences • President, Asian Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (AFPS) • Visting Professor, Uppsala University

Professor Wojciech Chrzanowski is an international leader in nanomedicine, extracellular vesicles (EVs), nanosafety, biomanufacturing and bioprocessing. At the University of Sydney, he established a cutting‑edge research program on programming cells to promote functional tissue regeneration, with a major focus on producing multifunctional biologicals (including EV‑based therapeutics) for tissue repair and the treatment of rare diseases such as epidermolysis bullosa. His work also spans longevity medicine, developing therapeutics aligned with Medicine 3.0 principles to improve healthspan and extend life quality.

A key feature of his research is the development and integration of multifunctional therapeutics with New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to assess their safety and therapeutic efficacy. He also uses these models to study fundamental aspects of disease and treatment. He builds multi‑organ systems that replicate pathophysiology and disease states, including age‑appropriate models for investigating age‑related conditions. These advanced platforms enable precision testing of next‑generation therapeutics and personalised interventions.

Professor Chrzanowski pioneered single‑extracellular‑vesicle characterisation using nano‑IR (AFM‑IR), enabling direct biophysical and biochemical profiling of individual vesicles and accelerating EV‑enabled diagnostics, drug delivery and therapeutics. He leads the Nanomedicine Group and the Nanomedical Innovation Research Group, and founded and heads the Nano‑Bio‑Characterisation facility, which houses unique instrumentation for EV analysis and nano‑bio interactions.

In addition, Professor Chrzanowski develops nano-enhanced high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU n+) systems, which are utilised as a non-invasive medical modality to treat various conditions (such as cancer, infections, and chronic wounds), including veterinary applications, and for biomanufacturing and modification of extracellular vesicles. This unique integration of therapeutic and HIFU technology demonstrates how his work encompasses the One Health agenda, bridging human and animal health with sustainable biomedical innovation.
