DrThemiya Nanayakkara

At the University of Sydney I lecture in Data Science in Astronomy (PHYS2014/PHYS2914) and teach in the second-year physics laboratories.

Previously I lectured in Physics Honours Advanced Lectures on Cosmology and Galaxies and in AST80016 Stellar Astrophysics at Swinburne University of Technology, and in Modern Astronomical Research and Communication for the BSc Astronomy programme at Leiden University. I was an invited lecturer for the Astronomy Twinning Program between Leiden Observatory and Universidad de Antioquia, Colombia.

Much of my teaching is international capacity building. I have chaired or lectured at JWST data-analysis workshops in Cape Town, Chiang Mai and Bengaluru, delivered with partners including NARIT, the COSPAR Capacity Building Programme and the IAU International Hands-On Workshops, and I sit on the steering committee of the latter. I maintain public workshop notebooks and data-analysis examples on GitHub for training across Australia, Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia.
