Professor Stuart Cordwell is a graduate of the University of Sydney and was Senior Research Fellow, and Director, R&D at the Australian Proteome Analysis Facility, Macquarie University from 1999-2004. He is co-appointed in the Schools of Life and Environmental Sciences and Medical Sciences at USyd and is a member of the Charles Perkins Centre. He is the Academic Director of Sydney Mass Spectrometry. His research focuses on protein post-translational modifications (PTM) in bacterial and cardiovascular disease. He received the Selby Research Award for work on bacterial membrane proteins and a Danish VELUX Professorship for his work on cardiovascular PTM. In 2021, he was invited to deliver the Simpson Lecture as the Keynote Address to the Australasian Proteomics Society (APS). He has published >150 papers with ~8500 career citations (placing him in the top 2% of researchers in his field; Stanford University, 2022), and he was an author on the original 1995 paper that introduced the term 'proteome'. His Scopus h-index is 51 (December 2025). He has been invited to speak at many international conferences, including 7 Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) World Congresses and was Co-Chair of the 2019 HUPO Congress in Adelaide, Australia. He is the immediate Past-President of the Australasian Proteomics Society and was President from 2015-2020. He has been the Vice-President of Asia-Oceania HUPO and Secretary-General of HUPO (2023-2025), and is currently a member of both HUPO Council (2025-2027) and the HUPO Executive Committee (2025-2026).
