LEARNING & TEACHING SUMMARy

Professor Gainsbury teaches across psychology and clinical psychology programs, with a focus on behavioural addictions, gambling harms, and technology-mediated risk. Within the psychology curriculum, she contributes lectures to third-year Abnormal Psychology and leads small-group research internships designed to develop core research competencies through completion of supervised mini research projects.

Her teaching approach emphasises applied research skills, ethical decision-making, and translation of theory into practice. Through structured research internships and supervision, undergraduate students gain experience in research design, data analysis, and dissemination, often working on projects embedded within active research programs.

In addition to psychology and clinical psychology students, Professor Gainsbury has supervised postgraduate students across disciplines including business (MBA) and computer science. She actively supports and encourages co-supervision across disciplines and faculties, recognising the value of diverse methodological and theoretical perspectives in addressing complex real-world problems such as gambling harms and digital behavioural risk. She is open to co-supervising students with colleagues from other disciplines to ensure well-rounded training and research outcomes.

Professor Gainsbury also supervises research interns at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and welcomes enquiries from exceptional students with relevant backgrounds and a minimum of three years’ experience. These opportunities are typically research-focused and designed to build advanced skills in applied behavioural research.
