Professor Gainsbury’s research focuses on preventing and reducing gambling harms in digitally mediated environments. Her work integrates psychology, behavioural economics, public health, and human–computer interaction to understand how structural and technological features influence behaviour.
Key areas include:
• Gambling harms and consumer protection
• Digital gambling environments and behavioural design
• Technology-facilitated risk and harm
• Financial wellbeing and decision-making under uncertainty
• Evaluation of harm-minimisation tools and regulatory reforms
• Real-world behavioural data analysis
• Development and testing of scalable digital interventions
She is particularly known for conducting large-scale, ecologically valid trials using behavioural account data, evaluating mandatory and voluntary consumer protection tools, and developing digital resources that enhance awareness, self-regulation, and informed decision-making.
Her work bridges laboratory research, field trials, policy analysis, and implementation science, with a consistent emphasis on measurable, real-world impact.
