RESEARCH INTERESTs

I am a Chief Investigator currently on over $59 million competitive grant funding in 3 main areas:-

1)          Clinical and health service research

     a.   Clinical trials. In 2026 I am CI/PI on three NHMRC/MRFF and two industry funded clinical trials of novel psychotropics and assisted psychotherapies.

     b.   Implementation science. We evaluate and disseminate implementation of trial findings, integrated with system and policy research findings into clinical practice through Australia’s first public sector ketamine treatment clinic, and clinical registry and contribute to the CARE data network.

     c.   Our unit is establishing standards and ethical processes, for the coproduction of behavioural interventions for people with severe mental illness, with a $3million program of studies funded by MRFF & NHMRC culminating in Hybrid trials.

2)          Public Mental Health – I lead the “people program” of the $32million ARC Centre of Excellence in Children and families over the Life Course (LCC) comprising the cognitive science of disadvantage, mental health, disability and sleep research themes across four Universities and multiple stakeholders. The program team of microeconomists, data scientists, linkage and content experts have been producing a body of work applying demographic and econometric methods to understanding and modelling population mental health trends, social determinants including early life events, and the impact of “natural experiments” such as COVID. Published in leading multidisciplinary journals this work has been widely disseminated through media and multilateral bodies e.g. All major Australian print and TV, and the WHO.

3)          Workplace Mental Health. We have developed and evaluated digitally interventions, manager training, and disclosure decision support interventions to address work related mental ill health with thousands of engaged participants. The (IP protected and patented) outputs have been implemented and scaled up by both government and private sectors. My evidence syntheses of the evidence for risks and treatment of psychosocial stressors in workplace mental health underpinned the $55million funding of the NSW Mentally Healthy Workplaces Strategy 2018–2022 and subsequent Code of Practice for Managing Psychosocial Hazards at Work.
