RESEARCH INTERESTs

I provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research leadership in Indigenous research methodologies and methods for First Nations
health and wellbeing research. My specific expertise in methodological design of Indigenous research projects ensures the privileging of
First Nations voice, co-creation, collaboration and leadership.

Through my research I have developed a new Indigenous research method (PhotoYarning) and have established myself as a leader
in research capacity building of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research academy. My research leadership focuses on
collaborative First Nations research covering social and emotional wellbeing, pathways into health care, chronic disease trajectories and
prevention research.

I am the Director of the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health, refreshed in 2023 as a FMH research flagship centre. In this role I exercise a position of leader of Indigenous research methodologies, methods, and research capacity building. I have 14 new international/national research collaborations and have contributed to attracting over $40,091,401 in research funding, including my own NHMRC Investigator grant and CIA grant (2023).

I work directly with eight Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and with collaborators from 30 Universities and research institutes. Key
outcomes, since my last promotion, include 38 publications, published or under review, and dissemination of my research at 45 symposia. Like
many Koori researchers, I am involved in research that broadens my portfolio, as I contribute cultural knowledge, Koori lived experiences of research and expertise in Indigenous research methodologies and methods. I lead research that is well designed, demonstrates integrity, privileges
community leadership, and incorporates Western and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ethics; I lead this space in two National research
networks, project grants and the clinical trials and cohort study. I lead Indigenous methodologies and methods (for example, Yarning) and have
developed a new Indigenous research method (PhotoYarning).

My research portfolio promotes research capacity building and workforce development of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce. By providing Koori research and cultural supervision, I provide high level input and advice on research methods, stakeholder engagement and support for students and academics (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous).
