Ioana A. Dumitru is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Archaeology, School of Humanities, at the University of Sydney. She is an archaeologist of the Indian Ocean World with a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from Johns Hopkins University. Her research explores the dynamic relationships between climate, environment, and society, with a particular focus on how communities respond to extreme weather events, environmental stress, resource pressures, and shifting social landscapes. She is especially interested in human cooperation, resilience, settlement change, and the ways people adapt to challenging environments over time.

 

Ioana conducts fieldwork in Arabia and eastern Africa and has also participated in archaeological projects in Romania, Turkey, Cyprus, Peru, Micronesia, Sudan, and the United States.
