BIO

Dr Indy Sandaradura is a clinical microbiologist, infectious diseases physician, and Chief Medical Information Officer at NSW Health Pathology. His research focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of anti-infective agents, and the application of digital health technologies to improve patient care.


With 65 publications in peer-reviewed journals (13 as first or senior author), Dr Sandaradura's work has achieved 1968 citations and an h-index of 23. His research spans pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antibiotics and antifungals, precision dosing strategies in critically ill and paediatric populations, and genomic surveillance of multidrug-resistant organisms. He has contributed to three Australian Therapeutic Guidelines chapters and led the development of Samoa's national antimicrobial guidelines for the WHO.


As a Chief Investigator, Dr Sandaradura has secured over $12 million in competitive research funding, including major Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) grants focused on AMR genomics and mobile genetic elements. His translational research has directly informed clinical practice, including novel dosing strategies for vancomycin, fluconazole, and aminoglycosides that optimize therapeutic outcomes while minimizing toxicity.

 

Dr Sandaradura's clinical leadership extends to digital health innovation as Chief Medical Information Officer for NSW Health Pathology, where he drives the integration of pathology informatics with the NSW Single Digital Patient Record. His work bridges laboratory medicine, clinical informatics, and public health, positioning him at the forefront of precision medicine and antimicrobial stewardship in the digital age.
