Research projects & supervision summary

Major Research Grants (as Chief Investigator)

Dr Sandaradura leads a research programme focused on antimicrobial resistance, precision dosing, and healthcare innovation with total competitive funding exceeding $12 million:

  • NSW Government-Sponsored Clinical Trial: Management of Urinary Tract Infections by Community Pharmacists (NSW Ministry of Health, $3,000,000, 2023-2025). This implementation trial evaluates pharmacist-led management of urinary tract infections in community settings, addressing antibiotic access and stewardship.

  • Expansion Trial: UTI Management plus Oral Contraception and Minor Skin Conditions (NSW Ministry of Health, $5,000,000, 2023-2026). Building on the initial trial, this project extends community pharmacist prescribing authority to include oral contraceptives and dermatological conditions, representing a paradigm shift in primary care delivery.

  • Managing Mobile Antibiotic Resistance: Tracking and Evicting Plasmids (MRFF Global Health Grant, $1,994,553, 2024-2028). This project combines genomic epidemiology with experimental evolution to understand plasmid-mediated antimicrobial resistance transmission and develop novel intervention strategies targeting mobile genetic elements.

  • Precision AMR Genomics to Guide Infection Control and Novel Therapeutics (MRFF Genomics Health Futures Grant, $2,949,756, 2025-2028). This translational genomics programme integrates whole-genome sequencing into infection control workflows and therapeutic decision-making, establishing a precision medicine approach to AMR management.
