- Fellow of the Australia Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FTSE), the Royal Society of NSW (FRSN), the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (FRACI), the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (FIUPAC), and the Australasian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists (FASCEPT).
- Awarded an honorary degree of Doctor Pharmaciae from the University of Copenhagen.
- Other awards have included the H.G. Smith Memorial Medal,for contributions to chemical science in Australia during the previous 10 years and the Leighton Memorial Medal, in recognition of eminent services to chemistry in Australia, by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, the Inaugural Michael Rand Medal, awarded by The Australasian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists for outstanding contributions to the discipline of clinical and experimental pharmacology and toxicology, and the ANZAAS Medal, Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science for contributions to science particularly in the area of science policy.
