Associate ProfessorFereshteh Pourkazemi

Associate Professor Fereshteh Pourkazemi is a musculoskeletal physiotherapist, academic, and researcher at the University of Sydney. She is based in the Discipline of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Medicine and Health, and combines clinical expertise with interdisciplinary research to improve outcomes for people living with pain and neuro-musculoskeletal conditions.

Her research focuses on musculoskeletal and chronic pain, as well as movement-related disorders, with a strong emphasis on social, biopsychosocial, and translational approaches to pain management. Her work is informed by co-design principles and sustained collaboration with patients, clinicians, policymakers, and industry partners.

Associate Professor Pourkazemi is currently the Convener of the Sydney Pain Consortium, an interdisciplinary research network advancing pain research, education, and implementation across the lifespan. In addition to her research leadership, she has held senior educational and governance roles, including leading the development and accreditation of the Doctor of Physiotherapy program as Program Director (2021–2023). She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an active member of the University of Sydney Academic Board, Academic Quality Committee, and an accredited peer reviewer and assessor for the University of Sydney’s Higher Education Academy Fellowship program. Her work reflects a strong commitment to research-led education, equity, collaboration, and impact in pain science and healthcare.
