BIO

Chris Fox is a Senior Lecturer in Art Processes and Architecture at the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning. An Australian artist–architect with thirty years' experience in the built environment, his practice sits at the intersection of architecture, public art, and civic infrastructure — bringing spatial intelligence and material rigour to public art at civic scale.

Over the past decade, Fox has directed the design and delivery of major public works totalling over $40 million in delivered value. Key projects include Interloop (Wynyard Station, 2017), Interchange Pavilion (South Eveleigh, 2020), Rozelle Interchange and Iron Cove Link (WestConnex, 2023), and Barangaroo Harbour Park (Infrastructure NSW, 2023–ongoing, as co-lead of the First Nations–led AKIN team with Jake Nash). Recognition includes the AIA Urban Design Award (2025), the Australian Steel Institute National Steel Excellence Award (2024), the Good Design Australia Gold Accolade (2021), and the National Trust Heritage Award for the Most Outstanding Project of the Year (2018). Interloop is listed on the National Trust Register and is the cover and lead exemplar of the NSW Government Public Art Toolkit; the digital archives of Rozelle Interchange and Iron Cove Link were acquired by the Powerhouse Museum in 2025.

His research integrates computational design, digital fabrication, and Country-centred approaches to place, sustained through long-term collaborations with engineers, government agencies, and First Nations partners including Dr Michael Mossman, the Gujaga Foundation, the Gamay Rangers, and Mimal Land Management. Current work extends through the AKIN vessels at Barangaroo (Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, New York, 2026) and a 2026 Special Studies Program based in Darwin and Arnhem Land.

Fox has coordinated Architecture Studio 1A — the architecture program's largest and most foundational design studio — for over a decade. He is open to collaboration with industry, government, cultural, and First Nations partners on practice-led research and competitive grants, including ARC Linkage and Discovery pathways across architecture, public art, computational design, and Country-centred practice.
