BIO
Alice Shirley is an Associate Lecturer in Agricultural Science and Industries (Education-Focused) at the University of Sydney, specialising in livestock production, animal behaviour, and welfare. Through engaged and industry-aligned teaching, she supports the development of the next generation of animal and agricultural science graduates, preparing students to address current and emerging challenges facing livestock industries.
Her research focuses on integrating advanced monitoring technologies with animal behaviour and welfare science to enhance precision livestock management. During Alice's PhD, she investigated the use of on-animal sensors - specifically reticulorumen temperature devices - to develop data-driven strategies for mitigating heat stress and improving individual animal production and welfare.
Alice co-ordinates and contributes to core units of study within the Agricultural Science degree, including Professional Development, and the Animal and Veterinary Bioscience degree. Her teaching, research experience, and ongoing industry involvement demonstrates commitment to advancing sustainable, welfare-focused livestock production.
