Tonia is an Associate Professor and Director Academic Education at the University of Sydney. She has worked in academic settings since 2007, drawing on 20 years of clinical experience in hospital and community health nursing, and community development in Australia and internationally. Tonia draws on this experience to teach in Bachelor and Master of Nursing programmes.

 

Tonia has particular interest in health communication across diverse languages and cultures and have collaborated on successful grants and research projects. Her research focuses on enhancing communication and capabilities for inclusive disaster risk reduction for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and other marginalised groups.  She also undertakes research informing nurse education and the development of academic and social supports, including the adoption of interactive and collaborative methods that strengthen the learning and cross-cultural interactions for students from CALD backgrounds.
