BIO

Stacey Brennan is Professor of Marketing at the University of Sydney Business School. Her research examines how subtle features of language and brand design, such as word choice, rhetorical framing, and visual symbolism, influence consumer perception, judgment, and behaviour. Drawing on a strong foundation in experimental design and statistical methods, she adopts multi-method approaches that include online and lab experiments, analytical modelling, and text analysis.

 

Her work has been published in leading journals including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Psychology, International Journal of Research in Marketing, and European Journal of Marketing. She collaborates with industry as a Chief Investigator on applied research projects. Notably, her work with Hunter Water on drought communication strategies contributed to a measurable reduction in household water consumption across the Hunter Region, demonstrating real-world behavioural impact.

 

Stacey holds a PhD in Marketing (2008) and a Graduate Certificate in Statistics (2003), and most recently completed a Graduate Diploma in Analytics (2025). As a committed educator and research supervisor, she has taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate units, including Marketing Research, Marketing Communications, and Brand Management. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (2012) and has successfully supervised numerous Honours and PhD students to timely completion.

 

Stacey served as Head of Discipline (Marketing) at the University of Sydney from 2022 to 2025, during which she was awarded the 2024 Leadership Excellence Award by the University of Sydney Business School. Prior to joining Sydney, she held a continuing academic appointment at the Newcastle Business School, where she served in a range of leadership roles including Head of Marketing Discipline and Deputy Head of School (Teaching & Learning).
