RESEARCH INTERESTs

Khalatbari-Soltani’s research focuses on health inequities across the life course, with a particular emphasis on healthy ageing. Her work is organised around three interconnected strands:

  • The first strand examines the social determinants of healthy ageing and health inequities, using a strengths-based approach to inform policy, prevention, and health system responses. This work focuses on how social, economic, environmental, and housing conditions shape ageing trajectories and opportunities for ageing well.
  • The second strand addresses key methodological challenges in social epidemiology, including guidance on avoiding common biases (eg overadjustment bias) and improving the measurement of socioeconomic indicators used in health equity research.
  • The third strand focuses on data equity advocacy, particularly improving data availability and identifying global data gaps in healthy ageing and health inequities. This includes leading the Healthy Ageing Toolkit, which maps cohort data worldwide.
