RESEARCH INTERESTs
Professor Gallagher's research aims to help patients to recover and lead healthier lives after admission to hospital for heart problems including heart attack, heart surgery and cardiac arrhythmias. Her work helps patients to reduce their risk of having further heart events, through cardiac rehabilitation, exercise and physical activity and medication adherence. Professor Gallagher's research aims to improve the quality of cardiac rehabilitation in Australia, through the QUICR MRFF-funded study and the SOLVE-CHD NHMRC Synergy funded program. She and her team address barriers to secondary prevention uptake including cognitive impairment, low health literacy and Chinese immigrant challenges. She is investigating innovative health technologies including fitness trackers and mobile phone apps to support lifestyle change including a randomised trial of the serious game mobile app for heart attack survivors (MyHeartMate) and telehealth for women recovering from heart attack and heart surgery. In recognition that nurses are role models and provide the bulk of healthcare, she completed 'Fit for the Future: 5000', the largest nurses' study conducted in Australia.
