Research Supervision

  • I am deeply invested in the supervision process. I am currently lead supervisor for four PhD projects and I have several students starting with me in 2024. My three most recent PhD completions explored mother-daughter memoirs, Jane Austen and the reading memoir, and the televisual work of Jane Campion. This year I am working with an Honours student on the fiction of Helen Garner.
  • Past PhD, Masters, and Honours students have completed projects about Australian film from the 1990s; David Marr's essays; feminism and young adult fiction; Australian magazines; Stanley Kubrick as adaptor and auteur; Lou Reed; illness narratives; walking narratives; women's crime fiction; memoir; mommy blogs; the novella; and the work of Rachel Cusk, Maggie Nelson, Carmen Maria Machado, Eileen Myles, Teju Cole, Ben Lerner, DH Lawrence, Don DeLillo, Bret Easton Ellis, Jeanette Winterson, F Scott Fitzgerald, John Sayles, Vladimir Nabokov, John Wayne, and a host of other diverse authors, filmmakers, and topics.
  • I welcome enquiries from prospective Honours, Masters, and PhD students but I am unlikely to be able to take on any new lead PhD supervisions until approximately 2025.
