BIO

Dr Nicholas Fancourt is a Senior Lecturer at the Sydney Medical School and a Staff Specialist Paediatrician at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. He holds a prestigious Horizon Fellowship to investigate the links between malnutrition and pneumonia in children.

 

Dr Fancourt trained in medicine and bioethics at the University of Otago and completed his PhD at Johns Hopkins University. He has practised at Starship and KidzFrist Hospitals, Auckland, Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, Royal Darwin Hospital, and the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network. He holds a joint appointment at the Menzies School of Health Research, Darwin, where he is program lead for international programs in the Child and Maternal Health Division.

 

Dr Fancourt regularly travels to Timor-Leste, where he has worked on major initiatives on communicable disease control, paediatric care, and health systems strengthening. He is recognised for his training and mentorship of Timorese scientists and healthcare professionals, and technical support for Timor-Leste immunisation strategies. His collaborative work has supported quality improvements at the Dili national referral hospital.

 

Dr Fancourt is a member of the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute (Sydney ID) and the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre (SSEAC).
