Research projects & supervision summary

Dr Mohammad Mahbub Kabir has extensive experience in multidisciplinary research projects, research collaboration, and student supervision across environmental engineering, membrane science, advanced functional materials, sustainable energy, and biomedical technologies. His research activities integrate fundamental materials development with applied engineering solutions, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and practical implementation. At the University of Sydney, his current research focuses on developing next-generation hollow-fiber membranes for portable hemodialysis, including membrane surface engineering, antifouling functionalization, enhanced separation performance, and membrane-based dialysate treatment and recycling. Previously, at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), he contributed to research on advanced anion exchange nanocomposite membranes for green hydrogen production, machine learning-assisted membrane optimization, electrochemical water splitting, and membrane-based water and wastewater treatment. His research experience includes involvement in collaborative projects supported by the Australian Research Council (ARC), particularly in advanced membrane materials and sustainable energy technologies.

At Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), Bangladesh, he has participated in research projects addressing environmental pollution, water quality, wastewater treatment, environmental monitoring, and sustainable resource management. His research activities have included interdisciplinary collaboration, project planning, experimental design, data interpretation, scientific publication, and research capacity development.

Dr Kabir has supervised 20 undergraduate and four master's students, guiding their research from project conceptualization and experimental design to data analysis, thesis preparation, and scientific communication. His supervision approach emphasizes research integrity, critical thinking, methodological rigor, independent problem-solving, and the development of transferable research skills.

He actively supports interdisciplinary research collaboration, mentoring, and the development of research proposals and competitive funding applications. His long-term research interests include intelligent membrane materials, circular water and energy systems, sustainable hydrogen production, advanced separation technologies, and biomedical membrane applications. Through his research and supervision activities, Dr Kabir aims to foster research excellence, strengthen international collaboration, and develop innovative technologies that address emerging environmental, energy, and healthcare challenges.
