RESEARCH INTERESTs
A/Prof Sarkies has an interest in research translation and implementation science, with a focus on improving the quality and safety of health systems. The priority clinical areas for his work are cardiovascular genetics, geriatric medicine, perioperative care of surgical patients, musculoskeletal health, intensive care, and virtual care. His research spans T3 Research: translation to practice, including comparative effectiveness research, clinical outcomes research, health services, dissemination and implementation research; and T4 Research: translation to communities, including population level outcomes research, monitoring of morbidity, mortality, benefits, and risks, and impacts of policy and change.
He is currently seeking PhD and Masters of Research students across several implementation science programs of research:
Implementation science methods and innovations
- Effectiveness-implementation hybrid study design
- Counterbalanced implementation trials
- De-implementation
- Implementation recommendations for clinical practice guidelines
- Process evaluation
- Realist evaluation
- Consumer and clinician engagement and co-design
- Research impact evaluation
Cardiovascular genetics
- Improving the detection and diagnosis of genetic cardiovascular conditions (e.g. familial hypercholesterolaemia)
- Developing shared care models for the management of familial hypercholesterolaemia
- Enhancing models for cascade genetic testing of cardiovascular genetics conditions
Perioperative care of surgical patients
- Implementing consensus-based perioperative pathways to reduce unwarranted clinical variation in elective surgery
Geriatric medicine
- Implementing and scaling evidence-informed models for hip fracture management
Intensive care:
