Associate Professor Mitchell Sarkies is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow at the Sydney School of Health Sciences. He holds a prestigious Sydney Horizon Fellowship, establishing an implementation laboratory to advance the science of translating evidence into practice. 

 

He co-leads the Sydney Health Partners Implementation Science Academy and is a member of the Academic Implementation Science Network and Westmead Applied Research Centre.

 

A/Prof Sarkies has a clinical background in physiotherapy and is interested in large-scale implementation projects that rapidly translate health and medical research innovations into better health outcomes. His research aims to support translation of clinical practice guidelines into routine care, introduce large-scale policy change, and reduce unwarranted variation in care.

 

His research program is ranked among the top globally in implementation science and has attracted over $25M in competitive funding. He has transformed policy and practice across diverse fields, including developing a national strategy to improve detection of familial hypercholesterolaemia and implementing standardised perioperative surgical pathways to reduce unwarranted variation in care.
