BIO

Dr Milica (Milly) Stilinovic (B.Perf.Art, Academy of Fine Arts Belgrade; MA, UNSW; MA, UNSW; PhD, University of Sydney) is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Sydney, where her research focuses on technological harms, digital extremism, and the governance of emerging technologies. She works on the ARC-funded project Governing Immersive Technologies, led by Dr Joanne Gray, Dr Ben Egliston, and Professor Marcus Carter, investigating the social, political, and regulatory implications of augmented and virtual realities. Parallel to her research, she is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Policy & Internet (Wiley), a leading Q1 journal at the intersection of digital technology, politics, and policy, where she leads editorial strategy, directs scholarly impact, and mentors international authors.

Her broader scholarship examines the intersections of digital extremism and unregulated digital spaces. Her work in this area includes extensive analysis of how far-right and white supremacist groups mobilise and recruit online, as well as research into the governance of artificial intelligence, where she co-coined the concept of the “underspheres” to describe the decentralised AI communities currently challenging regulatory frameworks. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a journalist, with reporting published in TIME, Forbes, BBC, Nine News, and Amnesty International.
