BIO

Dr Matthew Verheyden is a dermatology registrar and clinician–educator with a strong focus on medical education, diagnostic reasoning, and curriculum development. He holds academic appointments as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney and Clinical Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle.

 

His work centres on advancing dermatology as a core component of medical education, with particular emphasis on vertically integrated curricula, clinical reasoning frameworks, and assessment design. He has led significant expansion of dermatology teaching across undergraduate programs.

 

Dr Verheyden has a particular interest in advancing dermatology within medical curricula, including the development of vertically integrated teaching programs, structured clinical reasoning frameworks, and assessment design aligned with real-world practice. He has led expansion of dermatology teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate settings.

 

His research portfolio includes systematic reviews, consensus-based studies, and dermatology education research, with publications in leading journals. His work aims to improve clinical outcomes through better diagnostic accuracy, enhance preparedness of junior doctors, and support scalable, high-quality dermatology education.
