LEARNING & TEACHING SUMMARy

Professor Simunovic has extensive experience in clinical and research training across undergraduate, postgraduate and subspecialty levels.

He is Director of the Vitreoretinal Fellowship at Sydney Eye Hospital, where he oversees advanced surgical training and supervises fellows in complex vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina. He provides structured case-based teaching and theatre supervision for medical students, ophthalmology registrars and fellows.

He supervises PhD, MPhil and MMED candidates within the Faculty of Medicine and Health and has mentored higher degree research students and clinical research fellows across translational laboratory science, clinical trials and surgical innovation. His supervision spans gene therapy, optogenetics, retinal imaging, inherited retinal disease, and outcomes research.

He serves as an Examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) Advanced Clinical Examination and has previously examined PhD and MMED theses at the University of Sydney and internationally.

He has delivered invited lectures nationally and internationally and contributes to regional capacity building through teaching initiatives in Southeast Asia.
