BIO

My research interests are at the intersection of political economy and social theory. I have published books on the historical development of American finance; the psychological dimensions of money and capitalism; neoliberalism; risk and speculation in financial governance; the asset economy; and, most recently, the rise of bailout capitalism. My current research is on the way logics of asset ownership are transforming patterns of inequality in contemporary capitalism. In 2025, I am starting a Future Fellowship on the future of the middle class. Prospective research students are welcome to contact me to discuss their projects.
