LEARNING & TEACHING SUMMARy

My teaching combines art historical methodologies with a range of perspectives to forge connections across diverse forms of knowledge. Embracing the transformative potential of artworks and objects, I emphasise the close study of individual works, connecting acts of making to a work’s initial reception and to the ways works of art and design continue to be encountered and reinterpreted over the course of their lives.

At the University of Sydney, my responsibilities include coordinating the first-year programme in Art History, working with students to introduce them to a broad range of material and visual cultures from around the world, and the skills required to understand and interpret them. At senior level, I teach courses in fashion and dress history, design and material culture studies, and run a course in the Master of Art Curating programme that explores the relationship between the art object and its display and interpretation in the art museum.

Courses:

ARHT1001: Style and Substance: Introducing Art History
