RESEARCH INTERESTs

My research work addresses questions concerning the circulation of ideas within and between cultures and temporalities, revealing undocumented objects and forgotten histories. Addressing works of art and material culture from the seventeenth to early twentieth centuries, with a focus on Europe, America and Australia, my work brings overlooked objects into focus, revealing the lived histories of material things and the people that produce and encounter them.

  • Visual and material culture across the 17th-19th centuries
  • Cultures of dressing and the dressed body
  • Portraiture and cultural identity
  • Visual and material aspects of print culture
