Professor Marina Kennerson is a highly experienced higher degree supervisor and internationally recognised leader in neurogenetics, with a strong track record in mentoring PhD and Masters, research students to successful completion. As a supervisor, Professor Kennerson provides rigorous scientific training in genomics, functional biology, and experimental design, while fostering independence, critical thinking, and professional development. Her supervision style emphasises high research standards, clear communication, and supportive mentorship tailored to each student’s goals. She has extensive experience guiding students through complex multi-omics projects, manuscript preparation, and conference presentation. Professor Kennerson is deeply committed to building the next generation of scientists and clinician-scientists, and creating an inclusive, collaborative research environment that supports research excellence and innovation.
 
Professor Kennerson is also the Unit of Study Co-ordinator for the Brain and Mind Centre BMRI5017 Genetics Unit of the Master of Brain and Mind Sciences – Coursework Degree. This genetics unit provides a comprehensive introduction to the research methods to characterise genetic variants underlying neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. Students gain hands-on exposure to contemporary genomic approaches within a precision medicine framework. An innovative, case-based teaching approach actively engages students with clinically and scientifically relevant problems, equipping them with the knowledge and critical skills required for modern translational neuroscience and genomic medicine.
