RESEARCH INTERESTs
Mahiar is interested in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders and delirium, with a special interest in harnessing the power of computational analytics to enable his research.
Previous works had focused on the use of network science in understanding the plant gene expression networks underpinning sleep-wake cycle, leading to the development of the package PAFway. He was also involved in harnessing statistical machine learning and survival analysis to develop a nomogram of colorectal cancer based on a local cohort.
Current research activities include the use of Mendelian Randomisation in understanding causal factors underpinning Parkinson's disease, and a clinical cohort study investigating interventions to reduce delirium in the peri-operative elderly population presenting with acute hip fracture.
Mahiar has future aspiration to use advanced machine learning techniques to elucidate the pathophysiology of delirium and probe its relationship with neurodegenerative processes.
He also enjoys swimming, poetry and french cinema in his spare time.
