Mahiar is a clinician-researcher working as a Basic Physician Trainee in the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Network (Sydney) with aspirations to pursue Neurology training in the future. He is also a Clinical Associate Lecturer with the University of Sydney, involved in various teaching and research activities.

He initially graduated with a double major in applied mathematics and biochemistry before pivoting to computational biology by completing a Master of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge. He consolidated his computational training with brief appointments at the Alan Turing Institute in London and Sainsbury Laboratory in Cambridge prior to undertaking a Doctor of Medicine at Sydney Medical School, driven by his interest in applying computational techniques to enable clinical translation. Throughout his studies and career as a junior medical officer, he has contributed to research projects resulting in multiple publications.

He is currently involved in both clinical and computational projects, with a particular interest in using computational biology techniques to elucidate the pathophysiology underlying neurodegenerative disorders and delirium.
