RESEARCH INTERESTs
Commercial Determinants of Health: I study industry influences over the public's health, particularly in the context of overdiagnosis, overtreatment and Too Much Medicine. I also focus on conflicts of interest, and corporate involvement in research / the scientific evidence base. I examine ways that companies interact with influential health consumer and policy organisations. I work to develop solutions including how to best monitor, manage and prevent harmful commercial influences over our health.
Research Integrity: I study research fraud and how it can be detected. I am to increase awareness about deliberate falsification of data and 'paper mill' publications. I am working with a team on a tool to help with the identification of potentially fraudulent and problematic studies.
Healthcare ethics: I am curious about the ways that values and ethics impact on decision making and practice in health care. My work on cancer screening revealed that differences in how we prioritise certain ethical principles can influence our thinking and action in healthcare.
New health technologies: I study digital health technologies including the risks of harm as well as the promise of benefit. I have examined these issues in mental health apps and am now working in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
