RESEARCH INTERESTs

Dr Campbell studies the evolution of innate immune responses across vertebrates, with a particular focus on the unique immunological adaptations of marsupials. Her research investigates how Australian wildlife species detect and respond to pathogens at the cellular and molecular level, with active projects characterising intracellular immune signalling in wombats and koalas. A key focus of her work is the development of novel cell culture methodologies for non-traditional vertebrate species, enabling in vitro investigation of innate immune responses in species that have been historically understudied. Dr Campbell's comparative approach spans multiple vertebrate lineages, examining how divergent evolutionary histories have shaped fundamentally different strategies for pathogen detection and response.
