Professor Judy Simpson held a Personal Chair in biostatistics at the Sydney School of Public Health until January 2019. She has over 30 years’ experience in the application of biostatistical techniques to the design and analysis of research in the fields of public health and clinical medicine. Professor Simpson has been involved in contributing methodological expertise to the design of and analysis of data from numerous randomised controlled trials (RCTs). She has a special interest and expertise in cluster RCTs and has worked with research teams in a wide range of disciplines. Professor Simpson has made a major contribution to addressing the critical shortage of biostatistics expertise in Australia, by helping to establish the nation’s first Master of Biostatistics degree that is delivered through a multi-institutional consortium, the Biostatistics Collaboration of Australia (BCA). The BCA was established in 2000 to develop a national postgraduate training program for biostatisticians. Professor Simpson is a founding member of the BCA and served on its Executive from 2003 to 2018.
