ProfessorJan-Willem Alffenaar

The teaching of Professor Jan-Willem Alffenaar includes the therapeutic management of infectious diseases like invasive fungal infections, tuberculosis, HIV and other viral infections. By organising workshop on antimicrobial stewardship, tuberculosis at Westmead hospital as well as a hospital conference he creates opportunities for students to interact with hospital pharmacists. In addition to being a coordinator of clinical placements he also supervises honours and capstone students doing a variety of project at Westmead Hospital. He aims to provides student an authentic experience in order for them to better understand and appreciate the role of pharmacists in hospital setting.
