LEARNING & TEACHING SUMMARy
Jacob lectured 48210 - Interrogating Technology, a fourth-year core engineering subject for all engineering degrees at the University of Technology. As part of the role, he developed and delivered six lectures using interactive Mentimeter slides, supported a team of tutors that ran weekly 3-hour workshops, and managed all the administration of the unit. Feedback from students was predominantly positive saying that they “felt the lecture engagement was very beneficial to understanding and collaboration” and described him as a “Generally an awesome guy!”
Jacob also lectured CIVL2700: Transport Systems, a second-year core civil engineering subject. As part of the role, he updated all the lecture slides to include interactive Mentimeter Quizzes and interesting videos, and delivered two weekly engaging lectures to students. He also managed a team of tutors who assisted with the marking and tutoring in the subject. The overall student experience of his teaching was very positive, with a USS score of 4.28 for q1-6 and a response rate of 64% from a cohort of 141.
Jacob has also been a tutor at USYD for over 10 different subjects and a tutor at UTS for 3. Throughout this time, he has taught and made content for subjects run by the Schools of Project Management, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering (USYD), and the school of Professional Practice (UTS). These subjects have taught students key skills they need to become professional engineers and project managers. As recognition of his impact, he received a High Commendation in the 2021 Dean’s Award for Outstanding Tutor and has been made Head Tutor in several of the subjects he taught.
