BIO

As a reseacher, my work has mostly focused on sixteenth and seventeenth-century English literature and culture, with a concentration on Shakespearean drama.

Specific interests have included the connections between Shakespeare, history, and political theory. With a starting point in detailed literary critical analysis, my book, Shakespeare's Body Parts explores the ways that Shakespeare pursues the political question of how human flesh and bones relate to sovereignty and other forms of power.

More recently, I have been working on a project called "Homophobia, Insult, and Adaptation", examining what it is we can learn about early modern constructions of masculinity, homoeroticism, and homophobia by reading early seventeenth-century plays and their subsequent adaptations in the later seventeenth century and across the eighteenth century.

Other interests include modern and contemporary British poetry, contemporary gay fiction, and contemporary staging of Shakespeare.
