The historian and travel writer Jan Morris wrote over forty books, many concerning architecture, yet her work has rarely appeared in architectural history. This postdoctoral project seeks to position Morris within architectural historiography for the first time, as one of very few twentieth-century trans perspectives on the built environments of Sydney, Asia-Pacific, and many other global contexts. Ultimately, the project considers what Morris’ perspective offers to the field of architectural history, and how her writing might furnish a model for architectural historians to communicate positionality, embodiment, and subjectivity in their writing.
