BIO

Dr. Francis is a member of the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, a Flagship Centre in the Faculty of Medicine and Health. He is a molecular biologist and clinical researcher with expertise in the pathological mechanisms underlying cancer, neurodegenration and diabetes.

He holds a PhD in Molecular Medicine and a Bachelor's (Honours) degree in Physiology from the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology.

Dr Francis's current work contributes to several large-scale clinical studies, most notably the Fenofibrate Intervention and Event Lowering in Diabetes (FIELD) study, where his research focuses on identifying molecular biomarkers associated with vascular complications in Type 2 diabetes. His work integrates proteomic, transcriptomic, and genetic analyses to uncover mechanistic links between metabolic dysfunction and vascular injury.

Dr Francis’s research program combines clinical data with molecular profiling to enhance understanding of disease pathogenesis and to support the development of targeted interventions aimed at improving outcomes for individuals with diabetes.
