LEARNING & TEACHING SUMMARy

Emma sees supervision and mentoring as an integral part of promoting and using research to drive improvements in rural clinical practice. Her teaching contribution is unique, spanning supervision of HDR students, medical students for the research component of their degree, rural clinicians and Aboriginal community members to undertake scholarly projects. In addition to co-coordination of the MD research block at the School of Rural Health, she also provides classroom teaching in population health, community medicine and research. Her students graduate with strong research skills, an appreciation of the utility of research in clinical practice and supportive peer networks. She is a sought-after supervisor by Aboriginal clinicians and students alike because of her culturally respectful approach and willingness to embrace decolonising methodologies in research.
