Emily Lai-Ho MacLean PhD MSc is a Research Fellow at the University of Sydney and Centre of Research Excellence in Tuberculosis Control.

 

Emily completed her PhD in epidemiology at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) and the McGill International TB Centre. She primarily works on tuberculosis (TB), with a focus on diagnostics. Emily is interested in the evaluation and implementation of new TB tests utilising various methods, particularly among under-researched groups like people with extrapulmonary TB and young people. She has contributed to multiple WHO global TB guidelines and policy documents. 

 

At USYD, Emily is a member of Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute (Sydney ID), Sydney Vietnam Academic Network (SVAN), Sydney Southeast Asia Centre (SSEAC), and is a frequent collaborator with the University of Sydney Vietnam Institute (SVI). Externally, she serves as Taskforce Lead of the New Diagnostic Working Group's Biomarkers Taskforce, hosted by the Stop TB Partnership.
