Dr Hegedus is an educational researcher in the Educational Innovation research theme in the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney.

She completed her PhD at the University of NSW researching effective treatments targeting antimicrobial resistant Helicobacter pylori infections. Her research on antimicrobial resistance (HA-MRSA, VRE, CA-MRSA, novel antimicrobials from plants) continued until 2015 when she transitioned to education research. She was awarded a UK Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in 2019.
